This position is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic clinical technology vision for OHSU Hospitals and Clinics. The position leads the execution of clinical technology partnerships and strategic external relationships; collaborates with the senior executive team, administrative staff, and medical and nursing leadership to develop strategies to minimize medical equipment-associated incidents and improve patient safety; and provides visible leadership for OHSU and the national clinical technology community. This position is responsible for aligning the technology vision with business strategy by integrating clinical processes with the appropriate technologies. This position is responsible for directing the maintenance and support of existing clinical systems, while providing direction in all clinical technology-related issues to support clinical operations and core organization values. Monitors and remediates clinical device recalls. Technology Vision and Leadership - Establishes OHSU' s clinical technical vision and leads all aspects of the hospital's technological assessment, replacement, standardization,integration, and patient safety
- Works in a consultative fashion with other department leadership as an advisor on technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness
- Conducts research and case studies on leading edge technologies and makes determinations on implementation
- Provides organizational leadership in promoting and supporting patient safety for clinical technology
- Serves as chief consultant to OHSU executive leadership in matters affecting medical technology
- Represents OHSU in relationships with medical equipment manufacturers and service vendors
Clinical Technology Services Management - Directs the operation and activities of Clinical Technology Services in a manner consistent with established OHSU policies and in compliance with applicable code, rules and regulations, and accepted industry practices
- Serves as a core member of the following OHSU committees:
- Environment of Care Committee
- Nursing Technology Advisory Committee
- Patient Care Services Capital Council
- Philips Strategic Business Council
- Continuous Compliance Committee
- Information Security and Privacy Committee
- Code Blue Committee
- Emergency Management Committee
- Administers, monitors and coordinates the Medical Equipment Management program
- Develops and implements mechanisms for assessing customer service satisfaction and utilizes data to continuously improve customer satisfaction
- Maintains administrative authority over all patient care related devices and systems
- Directs the installation of medical equipment and systems including all work performed by medical equipment contractors and/or vendors
- Represents OHSU in matters concerning the Medical Equipment Management program to other OHSU, local, state, federal and programmatic entities
Financial Management - Prepares the annual operating budget and capital budget for the Clinical Technology Services department for $238 million and over 39,000 pieces of covered equipment
- Prepares and implements the OHSU Strategic Technology Replacement plan for clinical capital equipment
- Maintains the fiscal integrity of the department by controlling costs for service and upgrades
Supports the Health System - Participates as a leader, facilitator, and/or member of management meetings, committees, Department Director forums, and other organization-wide meetings
- Acts as an internal and external role model in supporting, promoting, and adhering to OHSU's mission, vision, philosophy, and Code of Conduct
- Communicates in a respectful non-blaming manner to assure intra- and inter-departmental cooperation, collaboration, and problem solving
- Adheres to and assures compliance, within scope of responsibility, with OHSU Code of Conduct, OHSU policies, rules and regulations

- Provides performance improvement expertise to enhance safe, effective, efficient, timely, equitable, patient-centered care
- Knowledge, experience in Lean, Six Sigma, project Management and other performance improvement tools
- Master's D Degree in clinical, biomedical or electrical engineering or related discipline. 7 to 10 years' experience in a clinical e engineering setting at a hospital or research facility.
- Must be thoroughly knowledgeable in the clinical use, theoretical and technical design, and repair of medical equipment and systems Proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of disciplines.
- Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to effectively manage an engineering department consisting of exempt and non-exempt employees.
- Must be able to develop, implement and present staff development and employee in-service education and training programs.
- Must be familiar with and have an excellent working knowledge of pertinent codes, rules and regulations including the regulations of NFPA, SDOH, TJC, AAMI, ANSI, etc.
- Must have strong knowledge of computer based systems and networking theory, design, implementation and support.
- Proven ability in negotiating for products and services with medical equipment manufacturers and service vendors Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
