Job Summary: The primary goal of the Social Media and Digital Content Specialist is to develop targeted content that motivates engagement across digital channels. This position will play a critical role in supporting the Furman University's strategic messaging by engaging key audiences on new and established channels, and increasing brand awareness through digital campaigns and social media initiatives. This role also will advise our campus community on social media best practices and work closely with the University Communications team to manage crisis communications through digital communication channels. The position will report to the Senior Director of Web and Digital Marketing and partner closely with the Director of Editorial Content and Director of News and Media Strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Create social media and digital content strategies and initiatives that strengthen and increase awareness for the university's brand.
Build community, and increase engagement by creating innovative and engaging video, photo and written content for the university's digital communication channels.
Monitor social media channels, and provide data-driven insights/reports on the university's social media presence using web and social analytics tools.
Work with the University Communications team to optimize news and public relations content for audience engagement across social platforms.
Maintain an editorial calendar that is aligned with university's strategic priorities.
Assist in creation of social media guidelines and policies, and work across university departments to advise and champion best practices.
Provide recommendations on social media advertising, and optimize paid and organic content to reach targeted audiences.
Monitor and deploy crisis information in collaboration with the University Communications team.
Provide social media coverage of select campus events, which may occur outside of standard office hours.
Work collaboratively and proactively across campus departments to source new content ideas and share with University Communications team.
Develop and evolve the university's voice across social platforms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in advertising, communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related field.
At least 1-3 years of progressive experience in social media management with proven ability to craft messaging and manage campaigns across digital channels.
In-depth knowledge of digital communication platforms and how they should be utilized to advance an organization's strategic messaging.
Experienced with the creation of photo, video and written content and associated software tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
Basic understanding and utilization of video and photo equipment used to produce content.
Excellent writing and content development skills with ability to adapt to different platforms.
Ability to track, report progress and quickly adjust the tactics of digital content initiatives using analytics tools such as Sprout Social, Google Analytics or similar platforms.
Experience managing projects and campaigns in a multi-functional organization, and guiding stakeholders in other departments.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to thrive in a collaborative work environment or to proactively take the lead.
Knowledge of inbound/content marketing principles and experience with inbound marketing campaign creation and execution.
