Department Description
This is a full-time position with an end date of December 31, 2023 for funding purposes only. This position reports to the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The core activities of COEH are to educate future leaders in occupational and environmental health, develop new knowledge, and bring the resources of the University of California to people affected by health hazards in their workplaces or communities. The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) is a large complex teaching, research, and clinical department. The mission of the Department is to improve the health of people using approaches based in epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, and behavioral science through research, educational programs, clinical programs, public service, and policy development.

Responsibilities
The Digital Communication Specialist 3 functions as a leadership role for the Web Design Component of the CDPH Website and under supervision of UCD and the general direction of the Lead Officer within the Internal Communications Web Team within the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Office of Public Affairs (OPA), the Digital Communication Specialist 3 develops digital communications, including web content development and website design, and produces communications or instructions using the web, audio, video, and other digital media, which may involve content creation, designing, production and/or programming.
Required Qualifications
BS/BA degree in advertising, communications, marketing, public relations, web design or equivalent education and work experience.
Demonstrated experience planning and designing templates and design reformatting for websites, consideration of design elements, workflows and strategies.
Demonstrated experience developing design strategies utilizing data from conducting testing on how subjects interacting with website applications and working with website contributors.
Demonstrated experience and ability to coordinate with the eServices Unit within IT and contractor groups to implement their strategies.
Demonstrated experience working with web production software.
Experience building strategic communication plans, organizing projects and executing plans with key performance indicators.
Substantial experience successfully producing effective materials and social media content. Demonstrated experience writing engaging text.
Demonstrated experience writing and editing professional articles in the English language, with extensive knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Technical skills navigating content management applications (e.g. Sharepoint, Drupal, Wordpress, Teamsite) and online communications platforms (Mailchimp).
Experience with social media and website analytics and SEO strategies.
Experience with web accessibility standards.
Professional experience writing for social media management, or strategic communications for a center, organization, or department.
Experience using graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator to create brochures, flyers, and other marketing materials.
Experience operating digital audio and video recording equipment.
Experience with digital audio and video editing software.
Must possess outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, active listening skills and political acumen to interact with faculty, funders, other professionals, and project staff.
Must possess outstanding organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate several projects simultaneously while maintaining strict attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Public Health.
Special Requirements
Must possess a Valid California Driver's License.
Must be able to drive and have access to a car.
Must participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
Occasional travel may be required, which may include driving and overnight stays.
Must be able to work occasional overtime.
In the case of a declared public health emergency, the Digital Communication Specialist 3 may work extended hours and on weekends / holidays in support of the CDPH emergency operations and response.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
