This Research Technician position is necessary to provide essential support for the ongoing experimental processes in the laboratory. Work requires advanced knowledge of applicable laboratory procedures, tests, techniques, and terminology. This position requires advanced-level research support, data collection, and data analysis. This position will provide support in advanced histology techniques Including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and RNAScope. This position will also provide support by performing. mouse handling and restraint, mouse survival surgeries, performing experimental procedures on mice, conducting experiments, data analysis, and data entry. Additional duties include general laboratory care (autoclaving, dishwashing, stocking, and inventory laboratory supplies), preparing common laboratory solutions, and media. This position will provide technical troubleshooting and protocol optimization especially as it relates to histological techniques. This position will also help provide training to new laboratory personnel in histology and animal handling techniques. Education and Experience: Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Essential Skills: Relevant and recent (within the last 6 months) animal laboratory work experience required. Must be skilled in mouse research techniques. Relevant cell culture, aseptic technique, PCR, and flow cytometry experience are required. Ability to store and access research samples, reagents, and supplies. Ability to perform many varied tasks and a high level of concentration to perform challenging techniques. Should be able to analyze data digitally and manually while able to clearly communicate information both verbally and in written form. Should be proficient or able to learn multiple computer software platforms Preferred : Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field is highly preferred. Prefer experience working with samples infected with HIV or other pathogens. Prior experience working with other human pathogens is preferred. Working knowledge of standard good laboratory practices for work under BSL-2 conditions is preferred. Highly prefer a candidate with relevant and recent experience (with the last 6 months) in molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction from mammalian cells and biological fluids using Qiagen columns and proteinase K, preparation of samples for real-time PCR analysis.
