Assist in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Function as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons. Act as a preceptor, and provide service coordination. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments
EQUIPMENT - Set up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operations
PATIENT CARE - Assist in preparing and draping of patient and operating area; prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures
DATA - Maintain and assist with computerized data and charting, probing, and digital x-rays; maintain dental laboratory slips and check in lab cases
SPECIMENS - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies
PATIENT CARE - Assist with table equipment, patient positioning, and application of plaster casts and dressings
DOCUMENTATION - Document all patient care activities
STOCK - Perform restocking duties as necessary
TRAINING - Act as preceptor for new technicians
SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparations
SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Maintain suture levels and assist in high level surgical procedures including vascular/aneurysm surgical procedures
DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position
Experience Requirements - Preferred:
1 and 1/2 year (18 months) directly related experience
Bilingual English/Spanish
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Physical Demands Requirements:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Testing Requirements:
Tuberculin Skin Test required annually

May be required or is required to perform on-call duties
