Head of Digital Engineering (Digital Principal - Front-End, Futures, Mobile)
Our client is looking for a Head of Digital Engineering (Digital Principal) to lead our clients digital strategy, the team from a front-end customer interaction perspective as well as their mobile engineering team.
In respects to the business; this is one of the leading logistics businesses in the UK that, over the last 5 years, has experienced exponential growth. This is now one of the leading businesses and due to the nature of it's output has continued its expanse into the market. The engineering team is well regarded as a high performant team which has over the last couple of years won numerous awards for the innovation that it has brought to its industry.
This position will lead it's digital function which encompasses every web, mobile application that faces off to the customer which is currently around a team size of 50 (mix of engineers, testers etc) with growth plans to grow to 80 this year.
In respects to the role:
The Head of Digital Engineering is responsible for providing the technology, tooling and processes to support our clients agile delivery teams at a functional level and direction for all technology services required for our digital products.
The role will also be leading the front-end resources within the several multi-disciplinary squads and working with product owners and scrum masters in the delivery of business goals, supporting the business in achieving profitability and long-term growth through IT. This includes maintaining highly available and responsive services for all digital assets associated with the tribes, managing budgets cost effectively and delivering new and enhanced digital technology services through the IT engineering teams.
The role will work with colleagues and manage our Delivery Partners (onshore and offshore) to improve service, delivery, cost and value delivered across these Services. Assist in the shaping of roadmaps and the overall portfolio delivery plan. The role will promote a lean development culture, best practice and create a positive environment in which the team can thrive.
Breaking down the role responsbilities:
Financial Accumen - Manage the full front-end development resource, create a community of practice and manage
Customers & supplier - management of third party and off-shore resources
Functional Practice - in particualr respects to the front-end team, how they operate with the larger IT function, best practices in respects to UI Architecture, experimenting with new tools etc
People - work with the managers & squad leads to lead the Digital division
Communication - highly effective communicator who is able to promote best practice, manage the division and provide great customer experience
Understanding the nature of this role & company the successful Head of Digital would ideally have:
Expertise developing digital products
3+ years' leading a team/chapter/practice with focus on Web/Mobile
Experience in managing large teams in a commercial environment
Experience in managing budgets
Experience working in an Agile & DevOps environment with CI/CD pipelines
Experience working with native (iOS/Android) & mobile-first web
Strong architecture & design experience on large scale distributed systems
Experienced managing remits of 40+ technologists & above.
