DESCRIPTIONUnder the general supervision, serves as Grant, IRB and Manuscript Writer and Coordinator. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for researching, developing, and writing grant and IRB proposals and for reviewing manuscripts. For grants, with minimal supervision, assesses overall fundraising objectives and planning strategies to attain proposal objectives. Conducts needs assessments, oversees data collection, inputs, analyzes, and evaluates program activities for proposal submission. Organizes and interprets complex data and writes clear communication. Works with grants aimed at multiple federal agencies (NIH, NSF, NIJ, etc.) and private foundations. The proposals will have a broad range of themes, but all be centered around microbiome research. Writes or edits a variety of comprehensive and difficult material for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, rational development of content, and emphasis. Researches, selects sources for and conducts interviews, and ensures accuracy of written pieces. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of printed and online material, or conversion of printed pieces to online formats and archives. In addition, incumbent will work on additional departmental projects including quality initiatives implementation and monitoring as well as committee management. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSSeven (7) years of related experience, education/training; OR a Bachelor's Degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training. Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation. Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines. Proven skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and/or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message. Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies. Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and/or health sciences. Proficient experience and knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and/or web production. Experience in data collection, management and analysis, using web tools, relational databases,statistical software and spreadsheets. Demonstrated research and fact verification skills. Excellent interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills. Ability to work with diverse population. Ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Superb attention to detail, project management and organizational skills. Skill to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated knowledge of NIH grant procedures and the ability to write large NIH grants, assemble and coordinate large multi-institutional grants.
