The Academic Program Assistant supports the Kissinger Center’s mission to advance and develop curricula, research, and programs in historically-informed strategy and statecraft. The program assistant will be responsible for day-to-day administration of the center and will serve as executive assistant to the center’s director. Responsibilities include scheduling and travel, financial accounting, data and file management, drafting budgets, correspondence, and other documents, staffing conferences and events, and conducting timely research for special projects.
NOTE: Opportunity for remote work initially during COVID-19 pandemic. This position will return to SAIS Campus (Washington, D.C.) once cleared to return.

Assistant to the Director: serve as the director’s executive assistant, helping to manage calendars, book travel, and undertake timely research for special projects, as required.
Office Management: consistent with SAIS and JHU regulations, develop and implement office policies and procedures, manage files, distribution lists, and other information, procure office supplies, liaise with operations, and control access to the office suite.
Financial Administration: track expenditures against the center’s budget, process reimbursements, review monthly financial reports, and help draft budgets.
Events: support center staff to organize conferences and events, manage A/V requests, organize catering, and serve as note-taker, as required.
Communications: assist center staff to maintain and improve the center’s digital presence, including updating and expanding the website, preparing an annual newsletter, and engaging students and external stakeholders on social media platforms.
Individual must have an interest in the study of foreign policy, including familiarity with universities, graduate training, and scholarly research in international affairs.
Attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to handle concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and work independently and as part of a dynamic team are essential.
Excellent writing and communication skills and discretion and confidentiality in business dealings are required.
Bachelor’s degree highly preferred. High School diploma/GED required.
Two years office/clerical experience required.
Previous experience in accounting and/or event planning is preferred.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
