Department CAPITAL PLANNING (UA-UART-IUBLA) Department Information Creating physical spaces to support IU's mission. Capital Projects (formerly named the University Architect's Office) provides architectural, interior design, construction management, engineering, and quality assurance and safety services for capital projects on all Indiana University campuses. Capital Projects staff oversees the creation or modification of any physical facility on any IU campus--whether it's a building, space within buildings, or campus grounds. A unit within Capital Projects , Construction Management provides project management services for IU capital projects. Construction Management staff coordinate the efforts of everyone involved on IU capital projects--external contractors, IU Capital Projects staff, and our university partners--ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, on budget, and in accordance with university guidelines and safety standards. Job Summary Manage and coordinate new construction and remodeling projects on assigned IU Campuses, including project scope and time/material budget estimates. Review and provide feedback over architectural and engineering drawings and specifications. Serve as construction project coordinator, analyzing and resolving project issues with architects, engineers, contractors, Indiana University administrators and other entities. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field and two years of construction management experience and/or large-format planning; OR high school diploma or GED and ten years of construction management experience and/or large-format planning. Combinations of experience and related education will be considered. Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University. Construction management administration skills. Strong communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of customers and management levels. Problem solving skills. Ability to follow large-format schematics, blueprints and drawings. Knowledge and practical application and experience in word processing, spreadsheet, planning and data base software use as well as e-mail utility. Working Conditions / Demands The position predominantly requires seeing, hearing, talking, listening, fingering and walking. The position requires sitting, standing, reaching and grasping as well as lifting up to ten pounds frequently. There are frequent close vision activities requiring reviewing, analyzing and retrieving information from construction documents, as well as daily use of a computer while reading and responding to electronic messages. There are frequent face to face, phone and meeting communications. Task and responsibilities are performed indoors and outdoors most of the time under average temperatures. Mental concentration is required with frequent occasions of various types of interruptions. Multi tasking, meeting deadlines, conflict resolution, problem solving and daily management of project concerns can induce stress. Must be able to walk on construction job sites and stairs. Some climbing may be required. Equipment utilized: Computer, printer, cell phone, and computer tablet.
