Reporting to the Vice President and Associate Dean, the Assistant Vice President, Principal Gifts (Assistant Vice President) will carry a portfolio of up to 40 or more Principal Gift Prospects with a focus on prospects with a capacity of $5M+.Â They will carry an individual fundraising goal in the range of $7 to $15M.
Has explicit oversight and responsibility for select basic science initiatives; examples include neuroscience, microbiome and others as assigned. Staffs Centers across the University enterprise, working with their leadership to advance fundraising priorities. Ultimately, the Assistant Vice President will be responsible for having a broad overview of the sciences across the Biological Sciences Division and the ability to see opportunities for synergy and collaboration in order to generate big ideas for future principal and mega gift fundraising.Â
Works closely with the Assistant Vice President and Chief of Staff, the Principal Gifts Core Team, and senior leadership to set annual and campaign fundraising goals and create strategies to meet those goals.
Utilizes resources of the development research team to accurately identify and qualify prospective donors. Creates personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies for each prospect, including gift opportunities based on University priorities.
Coordinates and participates in visits with prospective donors for the purposes of qualification, cultivation and solicitation.
Meets regularly with faculty and senior colleagues to identify prospects and their most likely philanthropic interests.
Cultivates high-capacity individuals for annual and campaign priorities.
Builds cases and ensures the written materials (acknowledgements, briefings, proposals, etc.) prepared by the Principal Gifts Core Team are consistent in their tone, message, content.
Works closely with Senior Leadership, Officers and Deans to design strategic objectives and action steps that will lead to the successful realization of these projects.Â Â Â Â Â
Identifies, analyzes, and qualifies donor interest to maximize giving. Assists with overall planning efforts for the University's most important prospects. Works independently to develop communication strategies for projects, including publications and public presentations.
Performs other related work as needed.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible development experience or progressively responsible experience in a closely related field such as not-for-profit management, personal wealth management, pharmaceutical sales and/or marketing, corporate business development, marketing an intangible product or service.
Demonstrated track record of organizing successful fundraising or marketing activities.
An advanced graduate or professional degree in business, marketing, management, or higher education administration.
Experience at a large, complex institution, preferably an academic medical center or institution of higher education.
Experience and proven success in managing a fundraising portfolio with major and principle gift level solicitations and gift closures.Â
Experience and proven success in donor base pipeline development.
An interest and knowledge base in health care economics, scientific and medical research, health care policy, or pharmaceuticals.
Demonstrated ability to manage the individual solicitation process from identification, through qualification, cultivation and solicitation.
Demonstrated effective decision-making; while working autonomously and exercising good judgement.
Demonstrated ability to utilize office resources efficiently and effectively.
The ability to absorb medical and basic science information quickly and convey that information convincingly to donor prospects.
Executive presence and confidence to represent MBSD in various forums.
Superior oral and written communications skills.
Comfort and experience in working both as a team player and independently.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks so that goals are met in a timely, efficient manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals at every level of an organization both internally and externally.
