Post-Doctoral Research Associates at the Institute for Clean Energy Technology (ICET) hold full-time non-tenure track positions to assist in the conduct of research and development of task relating to an externally funded program. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate, an externally-funded professional, reports to a project investigator. These positions are contingent on the availability of funding.
The Institute for Clean Energy Technology (ICET) at Mississippi State University is an interdisciplinary center comprised of research, and engineering design & development for industry and government partners. Our overall effort is focused on evaluation of materials and components of vital safety systems used throughout the nuclear complex.
Area of Specialization:
Analytical analysis and physical properties analysis, including but not limited to Thermogravimetric Analysis, Tensile Strength, Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Water Repellency, and Resistance and Penetration of filter medium.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Project management of the analytical analysis team.
Perform analytical analysis of filter media coupons, including but not limited to Thermogravimetric Analysis, Tensile Strength, Microscopy, Water Repellency, and Resistance and Penetration.
Research and develop further analytical methods needed for additional active research projects including but not limited to the evaluating the effects of fire and smoke on filters and filter medium.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintain current knowledge of relevant literature and best industry practices, publish in archival journals, write research proposals, and present in a public forum.
Ability to generate calibration schedules, perform uncertainty analyses, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, and generate plans for processing of data and reporting of results.
A PhD in Chemistry or related field.
Experience in analytical and physical properties analysis. US Citizen Preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skills associated with a PhD in Chemistry or related field.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Able to lift up to 50 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk. Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; may involve conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis. May require occasional work on nights, weekends, and hours outside of the regular 8-5 workday
