The Department of Instruction & Leadership in Education at Duquesne University’s School of Education looks to fill a Non-Tenure Track - Clinical Assistant Professor in Literacy Education. The faculty appointment is primarily associated with courses in the Graduate Reading and Literacy Education (GRLA) Program, as well as several literacy-based courses in the Prek-4 and Middle Level (Grades 4-8) Education Programs. The start date for this position is July 1, 2021. The salary will be commensurate with qualification and will include a 12-month salary, vacation, and benefits package. Responsibilities associated with this position may include:
Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Elementary/Middle-Level English Language Arts and/or the Reading Master’s Certification Program.
Participating in meetings and discussions related to building DILE in general and providing leadership in the continuing development of the Reading and Literacy education program specifically.
Interfacing with the Duquesne Reading Clinicwhich provides students and their families’ affordable, research-based assessment and tutorial services in a nurturing environment that fosters confidence and academic achievement.
An earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution in reading and literacy development or a related field. ABD with an anticipated completion date by July 1st will be considered.
Research experience or interests in one or more of the following areas within the broader field of literacy education: Reading, Digital Literacies, Literacy Assessment, Literacy Intervention, and Literacy Professional Development.
A minimum of three years’ experience teaching in PreK-8 schools in the U.S.
A passion for sharing their knowledge and experiences in Reading, Literacy, and English Language Arts with preservice/in-service teachers and faculty.
A willingness to build new relationships with individuals at Duquesne University and the greater Pittsburgh community in the interest of advancing teaching and learning practices and opportunities within the fields of Literacy and Reading.
