General Overview
The Quality and Patient Experience (QPE) department delivers on the Board's vision to advance a culture of treating patients with dignity, respect and equity; within our institutions and in the communities we serve; promote a reliable, consistent, and coordinated care experience across institutions; and achieve the best clinical outcomes possible. Seeking experienced healthcare professional with project management and analytic skills to design and implement programming that supports the portfolio of Health Equity and United Against Racism clinical and community initiatives. The Program Manager will be responsible for leading community based health equity programing, inclusive of screening and response for social determinants of health and Flexible Services program. Program Manager will guide the work of Project Specialists responsible for social determinants and Flexible Services operations. Program Manager will also conduct clinical process improvement aimed at reducing disparities in care and support antiracist policy agenda, in addition to other efforts in support of antiracism in clinical care.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, leadership and project management skills, professional maturity, attention to detail and analytic competence. The Manager will work closely with a newly created team, reporting jointly to the MGB Associate Chief Quality Officer and Program Director for Health Equity, tasked with generating rapid and sustained improvements in the accessibility and delivery of virtual care that result to equal health outcomes for all patients regardless of race, ethnicity or language.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• In concert with the Program Director of Equity and UAR Team and the Associate Chief Quality Officer, this person will lead MGB's enterprise efforts to improve patient health equity and quality and its related work, with a focus on screening and response for health-related social needs and Flexible Services. • Design expansion of social determinants of health screening and response across primary care. Develop and train clinical practice staff on program operations. Liaise with Epic on optimization of data collection, visualization, and development of tools to make responses actionable. • Through Flexible Services funding, Program Manager to generate knowledge base on effective models for funding nutrition and housing services for patients. Liaise with social services organizations and clinical leaders to facilitate patient enrollment. • In conjunction with MGB Primary Care leadership, design, support, and train as needed, operations and staff of clinic personnel, such as Community Health Workers and Community Resource Specialists, to enable patient connections to community services. • Develop accountability metrics for SDOH and Flexible Services. Design, monitor and report on key performance indicators of success. • Design monitoring and evaluation of SDOH and Flexible Services, with eye to demonstrate successful aspects of intervention, measure impact to health-related social needs and clinical outcomes. • Support other work in as part of antiracist agenda. This may include: o Support equity clinical process improvement. o Measure and share variations in patient outcomes based on race, ethnicity, language • Other work as assigned.
Qualifications Qualifications • Bachelor's degree required, with 5 years experience in health policy and/or quality improvement/healthcare setting preferred (or a blend of experience and education) • Master's degree in health management, business, public health or public policy strongly preferred. • Experience in quality improvement, healthcare consulting, policy analysis, or quality/financial data analysis and reporting preferred. • Experience in clinical project management, consulting or clinical/financial data analysis preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
• Project Management: Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work autonomously. Ability to set priorities and vision, manage multiple tasks and projects, and set, and meet, deadlines. • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to drive consensus and distill complex topics into key takeaways and pointed questions for a variety of individuals and audiences throughout the organization. • Familiarity with Epic is a plus • Strategic Thinking and Facilitation: ability to think about strategic problems, generate and present options, and facilitate consensus and decision-making among constituent clinical, operational, and/or executive leadership. Ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. • Ability to develop effective relationships with a broad array of people (different levels of management and clinical experts). • Strong visualization skills, including developing programmatic scoring algorithms, clinical and financial performance summaries, and analytics findings. • High degree of initiative and enthusiasm for learning new concepts and working with new tools and sources of information. • Strong PC / Microsoft application skills including Word, Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with SQL and Tableau or other data visualization software preferred. • Familiarity with clinical workflows in the ambulatory setting a plus.
