Location: Bloomington Department: IU Bloomington Counseling and Educational Psychology Position Announcement: Context: Understanding the causal mechanisms of human attitudes and behavior is critical for progress, for the effective translation of theory into practice, and for implementing policies that improve educational outcomes. Experiments are among the highest quality evidence for making causal claims. Moreover, as technology advances, opportunities exist to conduct complex field experiments at massive scales, rapidly accelerating theoretical and practical insights about the causes of change. These opportunities are uniquely relevant to the School of Education, as the rapid digital transformation of education has enabled new forms of experimental research that achieve a high standard within large-scale digital platforms. Inquiry Methodology – Quantitative Methods Emphasis: The Inquiry Methodology program, housed within Indiana University's School of Education, is pleased to invite applications for a 10-month tenure track position in quantitative methods, starting fall 2021. The preferred candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to quantitative methodological research as it pertains to the field of education. The rank of the position is open, although candidates at the rank of assistant professor are preferred. Candidates will be expected to teach general and specialized quantitative methods courses at the graduate level. There is also a possibility of some undergraduate teaching. Competitive candidates should demonstrate a record of (especially at the associate or full rank) or a willingness to pursue external funding. Basic Qualifications: An earned PhD by August of 2021 in quantitative research methods, quantitative psychology, educational statistics, behavioral or social science research methods, or a closely related field and a proven or emerging research record that demonstrates a contribution to the discipline of quantitative research methods. Additional Qualifications: Additionally, the following qualifications are preferred: a) expertise in learning analytics methods (i.e., machine learning, big data analysis, data mining, etc.); b) expertise in experimental design methods/causal inference framework; c) to mesh with our current areas of expertise, some experience or training in educational measurement/psychometrics; d) success in securing or the potential to secure external funding.
