Department: Communication FTE: 1.0 Position Summary: The Communication program at Southern Oregon University—a member of the SOU Division of Business, Communication, and the Environment—invites applications for a full-time, nine-month renewable, professional-track generalist Instructor in Communication beginning on September 16, 2021. We seek candidates qualified to offer undergraduate instruction across the following areas: intercultural communication, media literacy, interpersonal communication, small group communication and public speaking. Teaching includes general education courses constructed around the communication capacity. On SOU’s quarter system, the teaching load is 4- 3-4, with non-guaranteed potential for summer teaching opportunities. Teaching assignment will include large-capacity courses (100 students), online delivery, and evening classes. Other teaching-related responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, collaborative course scheduling, and programmatic assessment. This professional-track Instructor contract is renewable pending positive annual evaluations, with potential for future promotion to Senior Instructor I and Senior Instructor II status. The Communication program at Southern Oregon University features majors in Communication and Digital Cinema. Experience effectively delivering courses online. More than two years of experience effectively teaching undergraduate communication studies courses in higher education. Experience with academic advising or other forms of mentoring undergraduate students. Experience effectively teaching most or all of the following courses: intercultural communication, media literacy, interpersonal communication, small group communication, public speaking, and general education courses related to communication.
