The Instructional Designer (ID) with the Educational Technology, Media and Design (ETMD) team oversees a growing portfolio of online learning programs for the Office for External Education (OEE) at Harvard Medical School, including Continuing Education, Certificate, Executive Education and Master's programs. Reporting to the Associate Director of ETMD, this position will work in concert with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create high quality, engaging, online courses that further the school's mission. The ID will be experienced in adult learning theory with an in-depth understanding of the instructional design and online-learning principles, strategies, technologies, program development, and fair use policy. This individual will balance multiple projects and competing priorities. The ID will collaborate with HMS Teaching and Learning Technologies staff for learning management system access, network access, and technology use policy.
Collaborates with HMS Faculty to coordinate the creation of synchronous and asynchronous learning content and activities, including fully online educational programs, enduring content, hybrid/blended learning, case-based learning, etc.
Provides expertise in the leading edge educational tools and technologies, such as learning management platforms, rapid e-learning tools, design tools, etc., and support ETMD colleagues, OEE business units and ETMD
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related area.
3 years of job-related experience in education or training setting. An advanced specialized degree may count toward experience
Experience in higher education setting preferred.
Requires knowledge of effective use of learning technologies and digital media to enhance the teaching and learning environment.
Experience working with online course delivery platforms, rapid e-learning tools, design-first thinking, creative problem solving, and user story development preferred.
Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and management multiple competing deadlines and requests from multiple sources simultaneously.
Experience with Cvent (the Event Management System), Zoom, Mediasite, EdX, Moodle and Canvas (LMS) strongly preferred.
