The Department of Pediatrics is located with Doernbecher Children's Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University. The Department of Pediatrics Nephrology team specializes in the diagnosis and comprehensive care of infants, children and adolescents with kidney and urinary tract disorders. The duties of this Research Assistant 2 position include assisting with patient-oriented clinical research for the Pediatric Nephrology Division in the Department of Pediatrics at OHSU. The applicant will assist in the planning, implementation, operation, and evaluation of clinical research projects. Under general supervision, the Research Assistant 2 will manage their assigned research studies and will interact with internal departments and external sponsors representatives as applicable. The candidate is responsible for recruiting, screening, and consenting patients for clinical trials in either ambulatory or inpatient settings. Additioanlly, the Research Assistant 2 will perform data collection, monitoring of source documents, report generation, meeting with sponsors monitors, continuous quality assessment, and detailed application of protocol guidelines. The position will require clinical study coordination, including facilitating subject entry into research projects, follow-up visits, biological specimen handling, and case report form completion. The Research Assistant 2 will initiate and assist with regulatory work, IRB submissions, and assist with preparing study budgets. The Research Assistant 2 will assist in the professional development of Research Assistants 1, volunteers, and students. The individual will work collaboratively with other study coordinators, nursing, pharmacy, specialty service centers, and physician staff in the care, scheduling, and management of research subjects. Knowledge of FDA, DHHS and other agency guidelines and regulations that govern clinical research is necessary. Strong organizational, interpersonal and written skills required. - Bachelor of Science degree with major courses in the field of research/No experience OR Associates degree and 3 years of relevant experience with 1 year experience in coordinating clinical research.
- Competent in Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and complete projects independently.
- The candidate will need to complete the research coordinator workshop provided by OHSU within the first 6 months of employment.
- Working knowledge of electronic database management systems, eCRIS, eIRB, and REDCap.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EPIC preferred) chart review, and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of statistical software (R, SPSS, STATA).
- Project management skills.
- Knowledge of IRB process for submitting, modifying, and continuing review of research protocols.
- CITI training for HSP, GCP, and RCR.
- Certification from an appropriate accredited certifying body (e.g. ACRP or SOCRA).
