PROGRAM MANAGER , Aeronautics and Astronautics-Small Satellite Center (SSC) , to join a new lab whose vision is to enable MIT to become a globally recognized leader in small satellite development and operations, both for research and academic projects to design, build, and operate complete small satellites and/or payloads for small satellites. Responsibilities include implementing directives issued by the codirectors and running the center on a daily basis; working closely with technical associate staff; establishing and maintaining good relationships with partners across MIT, in multilateral agencies, nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations, and private industry; working with student groups active in space research; engaging faculty across MIT for the purpose of coordinating research on a broad range of technologies in a variety of sectors; collaborating on developing a plan for physical space for a center; leading the coordination of proposal writing efforts; working with Lincoln Lab to develop a process that can be repeated when more advanced facilities are needed for flight projects; managing web content.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : B.S. in engineering or applied physics; four years' experience with administration/operations and/or project/program management; experience in the commercial space industry; commitment to diversity and experience and comfort interacting with culturally diverse academic leaders/students/research sponsors; excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative, and organizational skills; and discretion with confidential information/issues. Must be able to multitask and set and manage competing priorities while ensuring accuracy and attention to detail; and seek out root causes of issues, conceive innovative solutions, and move from concept to implementation. PREFERRED : SM in aerospace, mechanical or electronics; experience with small satellite systems either designing, building, and launching them and/or in mission planning and concurrent engineering.
