The Biomedical Animator/Illustrator is responsible for creating illustrations, animations and other visuals by presenting accurate scientific and medical information in a clear and engaging manner. The position requires collaboration with experts in the research field to communicate the science being conducted at Simpson Querrey Center for Epigenetics and Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. The Biomedical Animator/Illustrator possesses expertise in creative thinking and visual communication, good organization skills, multitasking, and the ability to work both in a team environment and on their own.
A Master’s degree in Medical Illustration/Animation from an accredited graduate program preferred.

Create storyboards, sketches, concept art
Script writing for animation
Creation of animatic
3D modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, animating, rendering, compositing of 3D animated scenes and still images.
Create didactic illustrations for publications or presentations
Collaborate with experts, scientists and investigators in order to fully understand and meet client needs on any given project.
Communicate with your team as well as teams from different departments.
Manage assignments from multiple concurrent projects.
Provide resourceful and creative approaches to complex and technical problems.
Participate in educational team meetings and project-specific team meetings
Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of project hours
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences/Digital Arts or related field required
At least three years of professional experience in graphic design environment
Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Pixologic Zbrush, 3D animation software, and VMD/Pymol or similar software.
Good conceptual graphic design, color theory, drawing skills, and 3D modeling and animation skills as shown in professional portfolio
Good understanding of typography, color, image and layout to create engaging designs
Versatile knowledge of designing for web and print
Ability to work well under tight deadline schedules
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Works well in teams and independently
Accepts direction and design critiques in collaborative design group
Must be able to research, source references, read publications, and work with protein data bank files.
Ability to make sound judgments and demonstrate creative and technical problem-solving ability
High attention to detail
