Location: Indianapolis Department: IUPUI Lilly Family School of Philanthropy Position Announcement: Position Title: Visiting Research Associate Type of Position: Full Time (40 hours per week) one-year appointment with a possible renewal for a second year, benefit eligible position Basic Qualifications: Application date for best consideration: December 10, 2019 The Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy seeks an exceptional colleague to join the research department at the first school of its kind. The Visiting Research Associate will manage various aspects of specific research projects in philanthropy. Projects could be for a variety of different types of clients, including foundations, corporations, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, associations, or others interested in the philanthropic sector. The potential research topics vary and could include individual philanthropic behavior, foundation grant making, nonprofit management, public policy, and many other issues related to philanthropy. Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct research on designated projects at the school, requiring a familiarity with quantitative and qualitative social science methodologies, including collecting, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data; Prepare written reports appropriate for various audiences and purposes; Present research findings in public forums for a variety of different audiences; Develop proposals and concept papers to present prospective funders with options for research; Train and manage students and hourly employees for projects under portfolio; Coordinate, schedule and manage research activities, including, but not limited to, interviews, focus groups, and survey administration; and Assist with the dissemination of the school's research projects by working closely with the school's marketing and communications team, including working with design firms in the development of the final research products in all mediums.Located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy builds on the strength of thirty years of research, training and outreach activity. Collaborating closely with the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the IU School of Liberal Arts, among others, the Lilly Family School's twenty core and over thirty affiliate faculty members draw on an expansive and collegial community of scholars and practitioners from a multiplicity of disciplines devoted to the serious study of philanthropy. Degree programs include the PhD, MA, and BA degrees in Philanthropic Studies. The school hosts eight chairs in various areas of philanthropy, a robust executive education arm through The Fund Raising School, the Women's Philanthropy Institute, the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving and the Mays Family Institute on Diverse Philanthropy. The school's Research Department is known for researching Giving USA, The Philanthropy Panel Study and Global Philanthropy Indices, among many other projects. Minimum Education: Master's Degree Minimum Experience: A minimum of two years' experience in nonprofits, fundraising, education or social science research, or other related field is required. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Excellent analytical, written and oral communications skills, familiarity with computers and various software applications (especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Project management skills are a must, and experience working with multiple constituents and stakeholders is preferred.
