This position leads our school's IT department, Education Technology Services.
Provides strategic and operational direction and leadership for all information technology initiatives at the School of Education including the organization and management of IT infrastructure (endpoints, printers, storage, application hosting, data security, personal computing, telephone), instructional technology (classroom computing, technology labs, research facilities), application development (MIS, decision support, workflow management), and client services (help desk, consulting, technology training). Responsible for insuring compliance with all University IT policies and best practices and creating and monitoring procedures to constantly review departmental procedures for ongoing compliance including the establishment of a regular line of communication with UITS leadership. Helps to establish and execute a long range IT plan that will ensure access to technologies that support the school's teaching, research, and service missions. Works to provide support and allocate resources to INsite (Indiana Student Information to Empower) project. Provides day-to-day supervision, management and direction of ETS staff; holds regular departmental meetings to review workflow and current initiatives with staff. Creates, evaluates and implements unit procedures and policies to best support meeting the instructional, operational and administrative needs of the school. Represents the school on IT issues and maintains relationships with University and external IT communities, acting as a leader in University IT discussions.
This position reports to the Dean with a dotted reporting line to UITS leadership.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, business administration or other related field and five years of progressively responsible experience in managing both personnel and large-scale, client-focused IT initiatives including both infrastructure and application development.
Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Proven experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management, and policy development. Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and PC operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards. Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management. Knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations. Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business and/or administrative problems. In-depth knowledge of applicable policies, laws and regulations as they relate to IT. Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures. Team leadership skills. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Willingness to work with and be responsive to UITS leadership and engage in collaboration while representing SOE priorities and interests.
Master's degree in computer science or a related field. Exposure to emerging technologies, best practices, and experience in an academic IT environment.
