Carolinas Medical Center (CMC), a level 1 trauma and academic medical center, is the flagship hospital for Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System). The PGY1 pharmacy residency program offers a comprehensive training experience that accelerates growth of each resident's skills and abilities in patient care, pharmacy operations (within the facility and across the health-system), quality and medication safety, project management, leadership, and teaching. Monthly rotation opportunities include internal medicine, infectious diseases, ambulatory care, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, hematology/oncology, pediatrics, solid organ transplant, behavioral health, clinical toxicology and pharmacy administration. Longitudinal learning experiences include practice management, operational core, and research. A more detailed overview of required and elective rotations is available on the program website. The breadth of resources available at Atrium Health, as well as the variety of learning experiences and diversity of preceptors, provides flexibility for the resident to focus on individual clinical interests and career goals. Graduates of the program will be fully prepared to successfully pursue further advanced training, such as a PGY2 pharmacy residency or pharmacy fellowship, or enter the pharmacy workforce.
