The India Research Center (IRC) of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), a global leader in public health research and education, is looking to hire an Assistant Director of Research and Government Partnerships. The overarching mission of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is to advance the public's health through learning, discovery, and communication. The India Research Center has three Foci: Research, Training, and Translation and Communication. The Center, established with the support from extraordinary generosity of leaders in India, is housed in Lower Parel, Mumbai with almost 4,000 square feet of space for office, classroom and conference space.
The Assistant Director of Research and Government Partnerships will report to the Faculty Director and will be responsible for the research, capacity building, and translation and communication activities for the for-profit entity of the Harvard India Research Center -- located in Delhi, India and operated through Harvard Global Services India LLP. The candidate will work closely with the Faculty Director of the IRC with a focus on two major research projects with the Ministry of Women and Child, Government of India. These projects are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and have two components: (a) use Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) strategies to address undernutrition and (b) develop Agrofood Atlas to document and advance regional nutrition practices.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Project management for the Jan Andolan and Agro-food Atlas Research Projects:
Overseeing all project activities, timelines, and deliverables and manage communications between project partners, funders, and relevant government entities.
Coordinating the collaborative activities between the National Nutrition Mission and multiple relevant national and state government ministries, NGOs, and other development partners, including the NITI Aayog, Government of India's policy think tank working on health and nutrition
Project management for the development of the national agro-food portal (Bhartiya Poshan Krishi Kosh) and an associated citizen science app. Specific activities for this include:
Consultation with the Government of India's (GOI) team at the National Informatics Center (NIC) for hosting and management of the Agrofood portal, and interlinking of the citizen science app
Work with the Central government's Departments and Ministries on the uptake of citizen science app through crowdsourcing platforms
Facilitate PI and project communications with multiple relevant government ministries including the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs, National Institute of Nutrition and leading technical organizations to focus on the application of the national agro-food portal on crop and diet diversification, climate resilience and control of non-communicable diseases
Identifying and consulting with local experts in nutrition and SBCC to provide technical support for the projects
Management and supervision of state level workshops conducted in selected states/provinces
Oversight and management of the deliverables of a major external software development contract (Stigasoft based in Delhi).
Supervise data collection in the field.
Document and develop narratives, briefs and reports and deliverables to the funders and the Ministries
Supervise 5 full-time staff members and additional part-time and interns
Coordinate with consultants on contractual obligations and deliverables
Managing government relationships:
The Assistant Director will also be primarily responsible for establishing working relationships with relevant central and state ministries, and in assisting the Faculty Director in developing collaborative partnerships that will promote public health goals and advance the Center's mission to promote the learning and practice of public health in India.

Master's Degree in public health, social sciences, or closely related field required
5+ years of related experience, with at least 3 of those years in public health, required
Prior supervisory experience required
Experience with strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, and financial management strongly preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills preferred
Highly organized and detail oriented preferred
Track record of performing successfully with with minimal supervision preferred
