Detailed Job Description The College of Engineering Technology (CET), Department Of Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Management, and Safety (CETEMS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is soliciting applications for a one year full-time post-doctoral research position. Applicants should have demonstrated background in one or more of the follow areas of research: - Optical sensing and optical metrology, including laser-based surface texturing and imaging (LiDAR), event-camera and high-speed camera based scanning and processing, 3D photogrammetry and stereovision, digital image correlation, synthetic aperture imaging, image processing and computer vision
- Traffic controller design and operation
- Autonomous and connected vehicles
- GPS applications in GIS network
- Large-scale stochastic optimization, mixed integer programming, convex programming, network programming
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning and statistical learning
- Geopolymer and/or asphalt modification with novel materials as additives (epoxy resin, graphene, bio-asphalt, nanomaterials, nanotubes, fullerene, graphene, recycling materials, synthetic polymeric materials)
- Experimental mechanics of solids, including asphalt mixture testing and visco-elasto-plasto constitutive models
- Structural dynamics of vehicle, bridge, high-speed railway and train
- Bridge structural health monitoring
- Nondestructive testing and evaluation
- Finite element method and discrete element method
Essential Responsibilities:- Conduct research in designated areas of expertise
- Publish research papers
- Assist in managing research laboratory
- Assist in graduate student supervision
- Assist in research/funding proposals
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced degree: Earned PhD. Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistical Science, Data Science, or in relevant field.
- Effective writing skills for publication of articles in scientific journals
- Strong publication record
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with graduate students and other collaborators
- Effective communication skills
- Strong background in laboratory experience or numerical computation
- Ability to program in Matlab, C++, Python, or an equivalent language
- Ability to perform any of the software packages (ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, LS-DYNA, optimization, TensorFlow, SAS, R, optical modeling) is a plus
