The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program at Covenant Health System will provide pharmacists with advanced training in the acute care setting to make pharmacotherapy decisions in a variety of patient populations, be eligible for board certification and for post-graduate year 2 (PGY2) training. Residents will participate in direct patient care, interdisciplinary rounds, project management, drug information and teaching.
PGY1 residents will have opportunities to work with our clinical pharmacists in various patient care settings including adult medicine, critical care, oncology, emergency medicine, palliative care, and nutrition support.
Candidates will have the option to obtain a Teaching Certificate with the Texas Tech University HSC School of Pharmacy. Residents can network with other residents in the West Texas region as there are pharmacy residency programs in Lubbock, Amarillo, Abilene and Dallas.
The program is ASHP accredited.
A Doctorate of Pharmacy degree is preferred.
Program Requirements: Residents are required to complete 100% of R1.1 objectives as well as 85% of overall ASHP objectives in order to obtain a certificate of completion. Additionally, residents must complete a major resident project and submit a written summary that is in a format eligible for publication. Residents also present their major project results at the regional leadership conference in the Spring semester. Other requirements include a poster presentation for the ASHP Midyear Clinical meeting, serving as primary preceptor for at least one rotation of students, completion of at least one MUE related to pharmacy management, and a select number of education activities including nursing education.
