The purpose of this position is to, under minimal direction, manage Environmental Services, Environmental Field Services, and the Environmental Laboratory business units at Austin Energy. This includes managing environmental compliance permitting and risk for utility operations including Power Generation and Energy Delivery Services, emergency spill response field crews, transformer recycling operations, environmental policy and programs, remediation and decommissioning projects, and developing strategies to minimize environmental impact. The person in this role represents AE on all matters regarding environmental compliance internally and externally, including with state and federal regulators and on industry committees, and serves as a technical expert on compliance and pollution prevention and controls.
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Environmental or Natural Science, Engineering or a field related to the job, plus five (5) years of related experience, (2) two years of which were managing a program or Management capacity
Master Degree may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Experience and previous lead responsibility over environmental compliance programs at an electric utility or similar industry
Experience managing employee teams with field, office and project management responsibilities
Experience managing health, safety and legal risks associated with removal, storage and disposal of regulated waste and other material
Experience working directly with regulatory agencies, making presentations to stakeholders, and representing organizations in working groups and public forums
Experience analyzing power sector environmental policy and regulations and understanding how they impact electric utility operations
Experience managing sustainability and environmental stewardship efforts
Advanced knowledge of environmental compliance requirements and environmental impacts of operating power plants and transmission/distribution infrastructure
