The Director of Design and Planning directs capital planning, sustainability, and space management functions for the university: provides strategic and operational level support for capital development initiatives through campus planning and facilities services. Develops and oversees processes for establishing budgets and project priorities. Provides architectural and engineering services for new buildings, renovations, and infrastructure on campus. Provides oversight for planning, design, and construction. Coordinates with the Director of Construction and provides support as needed.
The Director of Design and Planning also assists the Associate Vice President (AVP) of the Facilities Management Department by taking responsibility for capital project submittals, coordination, and implementation. This requires communicating with the Office of the State Architect (OSA,) the Tennessee Higher Education Council (THEC), and other state agencies as required.
The position oversees the Department of Sustainability through the development of program initiatives and implementation of High Performance Building Requirements (HPBR) and performs other duties as needed.
