Enterprise Finance drives financial management for the company and maintains and enhances risk and financial controls. Key functions within Enterprise Finance include finance and accounting; Treasury; corporate development, mergers, and acquisitions; Data Management and Insights, the Customer Remediation Center of Excellence, Enterprise Shared Services, Business Process Management, and Corporate Strategy. Enterprise Finance informs shareholders, regulators, taxing authorities, team members, and leaders of the company's financial performance through earnings releases, investor meetings and conferences, and meetings with regulators and credit rating agencies, following appropriate reporting guidelines. They also maintain and enhance risk and financial controls and lead many of the company's shared services functions including corporate properties, security, and global services.
The Corporate Economics Group (CEG) resides in Enterprise Finance and is responsible for development and distribution of all economic scenarios used in the firm's forecasting processes, including stress testing, financial planning, loss forecasting and other key risk management activities within Wells Fargo and Company. The team collaborates closely with the Risk, Asset-Liability, Financial Planning and Capital Management functions.
Overview & Responsibilities
The international economist is responsible for researching, modeling and forecasting metrics representative of the global economy. The Economist will perform complex economic and statistical analysis and prepare reports and presentations for executives and senior level management. Specifically, the Economist would be expected to construct econometric models for forecasting purposes and draw inferences about alternative economic conditions. These include forecasts for macroeconomic variables such as GDP, unemployment, interest rates, credit spreads, equity indexes and foreign exchange rates. The position resides in a team-oriented environment that requires extensive interaction with other economists and financial professionals. Though directly reporting to the Corporate Economist, the successful candidate will operate with considerable independence.
Perform complex economic and statistical analysis and communicate findings to executives and senior management. These may be routine or ad hoc, depending on circumstances.
Produce time series forecasts of metrics critical to financial planning and risk management and communicate those forecasts to non-technical audiences.
Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of third-party statistical models, document those findings, and make modifications as may be appropriate.
Ensure compliance with all internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Develop procedures, techniques and methods that increase production efficiency. Creativity is highly valued.
5+ years of economics experience demonstrated through work or military experience
3+ years experience with Time Series Forecasting
A Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline
A PhD in a quantitative discipline
Ability to present technical concepts to senior leaders
Ability to synthesize complex analytical findings into executive level communications
Knowledge and understanding of economic climate and related market developments
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong presentation skills
Project management experience
Other Desired Qualifications
Extensive experience utilizing analytical methods used in: statistical analysis, modeling, and forecasting
Proficiency with statistical software (i.e. Eviews, RATS, R, etc.)
Extensive experience evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of third-party statistical models, document those findings, and make modifications as may be appropriate
Knowledge and understanding in compliance with all internal policies and regulatory requirements
