The Quality & Innovation Project Administrator reports to the Assistant Director of Strategic Partnerships and provides high level project management coordination of program planning and assists in implementation of programs to improve the quality, safety, and costs of care. This position supports Armstrong Institute’s collaborations with Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins International affiliates and contracts with other healthcare organizations and other industrial and academic partners seeking to improve quality, safety, and value of care.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Tracks activities, milestones, deliverables and report out on a routine basis. Works with clients to help them meet targets and milestones by doing much of the leg work to accomplish them. Works with specialists to define and provide data to leaders based on issues raised.
• Utilizes knowledge of quality literature, theories of innovation and operational expertise to help external collaborator’s improvement teams develop goals and strategies to achieve those goals.
• Develops work plans to achieve assigned contract goals and organize all activities in support of contract goals.
• Provides technical support for quality improvement activities of internal/external collaborator’s clinical departments and work units, specifically providing them with the necessary tools and approaches to improve specific measures of quality.
• Organizes cross-functional unit activities in support of goals; including the coordination and facilitation of meetings, knowledgeable of clinical and administrative operations and physician practice in order to develop plans of action.
• Assists improvement teams on methods of improvement, metric selection, data collection and analysis.
• Provides necessary technical expertise, just in time training and follow-up to ensure the success of improvement teams.
• Identifies the need for training and/or additional support for the success of improvement teams. Ensures knowledge, skills and abilities of individual improvement team members to meet project goals.
• Identifies and implements measures of performance for internal/external collaborators with the goal of improving quality and supporting innovation in patient care.
• Integrates quality activities across the Institute to support open communication, continuous quality improvement and service-oriented, efficient and cost-effective operations.
• Facilitates the design, development and upgrade of information systems to support both improvement team projects and Institute activities in quality improvement and innovation. Identifies potential new technologies to support specific quality initiatives.
• Uses professional judgment in handling information based on the situation and is sensitive to individual and organizational concerns.
• Assist in development of budget and contracts for internal/external collaborations.
• May supervise project coordinator(s) on their work within the internal and external collaborations.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as engineering, business, public health, education, and IT. Master's degree preferred.
Four (4) years of related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *
Master's Degree is preferred.
• Experience in a healthcare academic or clinical setting.
• Experience with project management and organizing project teams.
• Facilitating trainings or teaching groups or teams.
• Substantial record of participation in educational programs involving quality improvement tools/methods, leadership, teaching, problem solving, and project management is strongly preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Position requires a high level of organizational skills to manage projects, timetables and implementations; advanced interpersonal skills to direct and coordinate the activities of multiple external departments, to positively communicate and work with professionals at all levels of the organization; analytical ability to develop and interpret data: excellent oral and written communication skills.
Requires skill and experience in methods of improvement, theories of change, and current concepts of team-building.
Technical knowledge of metric development, data collection and analysis is critical to success in this position.
Proficiency in Excel, Power Point and other desktop applications required.
