Job Title: Director of Engagement and Events
Reports to: Senior Associate Director of Development
King seeks a Director of Engagement and Events who will play a key role and is charged with overseeing institutional events management and serves as a strategic partner to the Marketing and Communications Department as they shape development communications and marketing to various constituents including alumni, parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, etc. The Director of Engagement and Events will also serve as the primary development liaison to the King School Parents’ Association.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Identify and provide strategic direction on opportunities for cohesive and meaningful experiences for King School’s constituencies in the life of the school - building involvement and engagement that ideally results in a sense of community, connectedness, and commitment to the mission.
Organize, design, execute and assess all events managed by the Development Office and major events managed by the Admissions Office. These events include but are not limited to the following: State of the School, Homecoming, Open House, new parents events, the Staffulty Holiday Party, alumni events and reunions, donor and volunteer receptions, and the biennial Parents Association gala. Assist with preparing budgets and provide periodic progress reports to development team members for each event project.
Team with the marketing department to manage creative content associated with institutional events and development communications. This includes significant graphic design, video creation and editing, and creation/management of various webpages.
Manage event volunteer leadership, committees, and meetings related to event planning.
Negotiate contracts, book venues, arrange catering, order supplies and audiovisual equipment, make travel arrangements, order event signs, and ensure appropriate décor to meet the school expectations. Serve as liaison with vendors on event-related matters. Manage on-site production and clean up for all events as necessary. Close out and follow up on all events as required; perform “post-mortem” analyses.
Serve as primary development liaison to the Parents’ Association Executive Board, building relationship-driven partnerships between the PA and the school; promptly address any outreach, emails, and overall needs, and attend weekly meetings.
Assist with ad hoc event needs from the Parents’ Association.
Collaborate with the marketing department on planning and executing communications from development in conjunction with colleague-provided solicitation and stewardship materials and needs. For example, in tandem with the Annual Fund Manager, serve as project manager on the execution of GiveKingTuesday and any other giving day initiatives such as the March Madness Alumni giving campaign including creative approach, messaging, communications, and follow-up.
Serve as project manager overseeing creation of the annual report and provide strategic support to the project manager of Quest.
Serve as project manager as needed on development initiatives, guiding and overseeing work flows and systems to ensure successful timely completion of projects.
Occasional weekend and evening duties.
Perform all other duties as required and assigned by the Senior Associate Director of Development, and the Director of Development.
Bachelor’s degree required.
5+ years experience working in all aspects of events management.
Highly skilled in a full suite of communication approaches and a variety of electronic outreach tools.
Technological expertise in graphic design, video creation and editing, website development and design, project management software, etc.
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or a similar database.
Ability to work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and friends of the School.
Work independently, solve problems, handle confidential information and navigate sensitive situations.
Take initiative in meeting individual and office-wide goals and objectives and in monitoring progress towards these goals.
Thrive and be flexible in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
