The Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy is seeking a full time Sr. Research Assistant to support faculty and research staff with project management tasks, manuscript preparation, and literature reviews. The Center is one of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control’s Injury Control Research Centers and was recently awarded funding from 2019-2024. Center faculty and staff are excited for the activities supported by the funding renewal and are eager to add a new member to the team who is an experienced researcher and ready to advance the Center’s mission.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
The Sr. Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting literature searches on various injury prevention topics using PubMed and other search engines; reviewing and critically evaluating the literature; synthesizing findings and preparing summary reports.
In addition, the Sr. Research Assistant will assist with drafting and monitoring of IRB protocols and data collection tools; and drafting and editing manuscripts, including preparing and modifying tables, figures, and references for publication.
The Sr. Research Assistant will also assist with coding and analyzing of qualitative data, database development, data cleaning and diagnostics, and conduct data analysis as needed including but not limited to generating tables with descriptive statistics, cross tabulations, and regression models.
Additionally, the Sr. Research Assistant will be responsible for setting up standard operating procedures for research studies and data collection.
The Sr. Research Assistant will oversee day to day activities of data collection staff on research studies.
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
2 years of related experience required.
Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula***.
Master’s degree in public health or a related field preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with literature searches and manuscript preparation.
Experience with the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel required; must be experienced with STATA or another comparable statistical analysis package.
The applicant should also have strong communication skills.
A writing sample that demonstrates the applicant’s ability to synthesize and communicate research (e.g., lead author on a manuscript, paper from a class) must be provided.
***JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
