Cleveland Equine Clinic (CEC) has recently begun a veterinary internship program established in 2019. CEC is a full-service ambulatory practice with a fully equipped clinic for outpatient procedures, elective surgeries, and hospitalizations. Our goal is to assist recent graduates in creating a solid skill set, problem solving, and overall a foundation to enter the field of equine veterinary medicine. Our internship is designed to expose the intern to a large and diversified caseload. The Cleveland Equine team currently consists of nine veterinarians with a array of special interests to provide the utmost in quality care and treatment. CEC has always been committed to being at the forefront of equine care. At CEC, we utilize diagnostics modalities such as ultrasound, digital radiography, standing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), endoscopy, gastroscopy, In house bloodwork, as well as computed gait analysis. Innovative treatment options such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), interleukin receptor antagonistic protein (IRAP), stem cell, and shockwave are all offered by CEC as well. What Interns Do… Interns will spend approximately 6 weeks on rotation with each of our clinicians both in clinic and ambulatory setting. This allows the intern to become familiar with the area, clientele, and practice values. The veterinarians will mentor the intern throughout their stay. Once the introductory period is over, interns will be expected to start to take primary emergency duty and solo appointments (with guidance from the other veterinarians) when ready, dependent on skillset and confidence. Interns will be supplied with their own practice vehicle, supplies, and equipment. Interns are expected to be heavily involved with our emergency service and should plan to have at least 2 nights a week on call and 3 weekends a month on call. The intern will also be responsible for all hospitalized patients. Benefits… Internships are salaried positions with benefits including health insurance, professional liability insurance, and paid vacation. Cleveland Equine will also cover Ohio Veterinary licensing expense. Housing is provided and located on premises. House is fully furnished and includes two bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry. The house has three bedrooms and will be periodically shared with other interns/externs. Housing is co-ed. Internships begin tentatively on June 1st, 2021 each year and are a 12- month position.
