The Henry J. The Human Resources and Finance departments play a central role in supporting a diverse staff of 160 employees and manages more than 100 grant- and endowment-funded projects in support of survey research, health policy and journalism programs. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, KFF also has a large staff presence in Washington, DC as well as a few smaller satellite offices.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Extract, create and update new and frequently used Human Resources reports, including pay data, benefits and tax reporting information;
Serve as back-up for payroll processing;
Serve as back-up for benefits administration;
Manage and update HR policy manual, handbook and Intranet;
Assist in developing, administering and maintaining employee performance evaluation system;
Develop and administer policies and procedures to onboard new employees;
Research and provide updates on legal requirements;
Administer human resources policies and procedures, and make recommendations to update policies and procedures to improve processes;
Participate in compensation and benefit surveys, analyze results, keeping abreast of overall benefit levels at other similarly structured organizations, ensuring KFF is in line with market standards;
Assist with developing procedures to streamline HR processes;
Ability to assist with intense year-end close out items; and
Ability to lead projects through design and implementation.
Maintain and analyze budgets and spending for internal projects and external grants, and estimate annual payout forecasts;
Assist in developing internal processes and controls for contracts, grants and appropriations;
Assist program staff with budget development for external grant proposals and internal appropriations;
Assist in the review of proposed grant and contract agreements;
Assist in the preparation of financial reporting for external grant agreements; and
Develop and maintain grant/contract and reporting templates (award letters, contracts, payment letters, etc.) for staff use.
Minimum Required Expertise and Qualifications:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills a must;
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required;
Excellent management, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a particular focus on providing the highest level of support and assistance to staff;
Tact, discretion, and good self-expression;
Thorough understanding of HR-related legal and compliance requirements;
Strong analytical skills and the ability to compile and analyze financial and other data;
Ability to work independently on concurrent projects and balance multiple priorities, with strong project management skills while maintaining a high level of attention to detail;
Ability to effectively work in teams and to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff as well as external vendors and grantors;
Ability to handle a high volume of work and function in a fast-paced environment; and
Experience with ADP or similar HR/Payroll software preferred.
