Johns Hopkins University is hiring a Product Manager to support the development and execution of strategy, communications, and vision for its Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center. The Resource Center is a continuously updated source of COVID-19 data and expert guidance that aggregates and analyzes the best data available to help the public, policymakers and healthcare professionals worldwide respond to the pandemic.
Led by a cross-disciplinary team across Johns Hopkins, the project uses data science, epidemiology, engineering, and design to translate complex topics, make expert analysis accessible for a lay audience, and make information clear and easy to interpret. The Coronavirus Resource Center has become a leading source of data and expertise, attracting millions of viewers per day, and serving as a data source for CNN, The Wall Street Journal, the BBC, and other leading news organizations.
The Product Manager will serve critical strategic functions within the team responsible for development of the Coronavirus Resource Center -- determining how the website is grown and clearly communicating its objectives and plans to a diverse set of stakeholders both inside and outside the University.
Our selected candidate must have a proven track record of keeping numerous, rapidly changing projects and people working toward a common organizational goal and be proficient in balancing the needs of numerous audiences and stakeholders. We are seeking a Product Manager with expert communication skills who is able to gather and solicit feedback, develop interpersonal relationships, and gain buy-in among internal and external stakeholders, all while working in a fast-paced environment.
The Product Manager is a strong collaborator who helps define the vision for JHU’s Coronavirus Resource Center, sets goals, and drives meaningful impact. Our ideal candidate must thrive in fast-paced, fluid environments, can quickly prioritize continuously evolving demands for the site, and exercise sound judgment in decision-making. The candidate must possess the ability to work independently, while consulting with project leaders appropriately
This position reports to the Director of Strategic Communications.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Support the scoping and definition of new visualizations, analysis, and other Projects based on the availability of reliable data, prevailing research, relevance to the public, and use cases
Manage a Project roadmap that may include defining user personas and journeys maps, in an agile, iterative fashion
Collaborate with technical, analytical, communications, and administrative teams to ensure the timely and accurate development of the Resource Center
Participate in planning sessions with website development, technical, and data science teams
Provide analysis and background for high-level decision-makers about potential Project tradeoff decisions while taking into consideration business opportunities, public experience, press demands, level of effort for internal teams and vendors, and the complexity of these solutions
Partner with communications and brand/marketing teams to promote the adoption of the Resource Center as a source of record
Understand the availability of data and research necessary to power the Coronavirus Resource Center

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or related field
At least five years experience in equivalent positions
Strategic approach to problem resolution
Ability to develop and communicate a sound plan
Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage tradeoffs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external stakeholders
Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, design, and Project management counterparts to deliver high-quality Projects
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including the ability to use data to back up recommendations and drive action
Track record of successfully managing complex teams and Projects within a large, decentralized organization
Ability to be decisive in ambiguous situations

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception.
