Investigators in Genetic Epidemiology studies of inflammation including Food Allergy, Atopic Dermatitis, CAD, Asthma and Atopy. The Sr. Research Data Analyst will also manage other research team members (e.g. graduate students, Sr. Research Analysts) to support the conduct of the research. Individual will manage, analyze and report on genomics studies with an emphasis on next generation sequence analysis for both family and case-control data with particular attention to phenotypes related to inflammation. The individual will analyze data with respect to sequencing on DNA and RNA. The individual will also be required to: (i) assist with the development of analytical pipelines and software that are cross-project and not specific to their own specific assigned projects; (ii) liaison with external collaborative groups independently of the PI to present research updates and facilitate research with external collaborators (iii) assist with and take a leadership role on high school and undergraduate trainees that intern; and (iv) manage graduate level students working on a part time basis and full time analysts (~4 part time/full time in total)
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Data management including data checking and cleaning of sequence and phenotype data.
Merging data, creating and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses.
Analyzing data using a variety of standard statistical techniques including classical regression and statistical genetics tools.
Presenting and summarizing analyses in various formats including raw output, tables, and graphics, oral and written reports. This includes internal presentations within the lab as well as external communications to collaborators across institutions.
Primary emphasis will be on data analysis pertaining to DNA variation and transciptomic variation from RNASeq analysis.
Bio-informatics approaches to help translate the detected associations into biological functional categorizations is critical.
Supervise trainees at the high school and undergraduate level. Assisting with their weekly training and hands on experience.
Contributes to publications.
Project Management for a variety of projects assigned to graduate level students and research staff.
Essential Job Functions
Using standard computer software packages for data management including data checking and cleaning of genotype and phenotype data.
Using standard computer software packages for merging data, creating and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses.
Using standard computer software packages for analyzing next generation sequence data (DNA and RNA) data using a variety of standard statistical techniques including classical regression and statistical genetics tools.
Generating scripts in R and Perl to manage whole genome sequence data and tests for association on phenotypes of interest.
Building analysis solutions that are cross-project and laboratory-wide in their use. This includes building centralized solutions to data analysis, interpretation and summary that will be implemented across other analysts and research projects in the PI’s lab.
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):
Masters’ degree required in Human Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, or Statistical Genetics is required OR a Ph.D in Human Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, or Statistical Genetics.
Minimum of one year of work experience in genetic epidemiology.
Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula***.
Bioinformatics experience is preferred.
Prior experience in genomics analysis and understanding of translational interpretation is preferred.
Candidates with expertise or interest in Genetic Epidemiology and/or the specific disease outcomes research are preferred.
Three years of post-doctoral research training or equivalent work experience
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in at least one major statistical analysis software package (e.g. SAS, or R) as well as Microsoft Office software required.
Programming skills in R, Python or Perl are required.
Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills required.
Candidate must be detail oriented and able to work independently on assigned tasks.

The Sr. Research Data Analyst will manage up to 2 full time research analysts and up to 2 graduate students for a total of 1-4 analysts in the laboratory.
