The Director of Communications serves as the Computing and Information Science (CIS) key communications resource and is responsible for planning, developing, directing, implementing, and executing CIS's internal and external communications strategies to advance its mission. As a strategic partner, the Director is responsible for conceptualizing and executing strategic communications, marketing, and leadership across a variety of media platforms and units to ensure integrated consistency for CIS content and visibility for the college's efforts to advance and promote the college's vision. The incumbent will oversee the development and delivery of all electronic and print communications. The Director supervises CIS communications staff and works with University Relations, CIS departments and partner colleges (e.g, those with shared faculty appointments/programs) to leverage relationships with administration and staff to proactively foster local and national attention for Cornell CIS.
Bachelor's degree with 7-10 years of experience, or equivalent education and experience, in communications, marketing, public relations, media relations or journalism, with demonstrated experience as a communications leader serving multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated experience as a self-directed strategic, creative, and innovative thinker and in developing and executing communications strategies to achieve results. Must possess exceptional writing, editorial, interpersonal, and qualitative and quantitative research and organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects and relate to diverse audiences. Must have demonstrated ability to collaborate and gain support from diverse viewpoints.
Master's degree, with experience in higher education, corporate or other non-profit setting with a focus on public relations, corporate communications, public affairs, marketing or related fields. Experience in the direction and development of multimedia products including video, flash animation, digital signage, blogs, etc. as well as active participation in online social networks. Demonstrated supervisory skills.
