Ransom Everglades School invites applications for full time, middle school faculty members in the STEM Department, beginning in August 2021. The STEM Department (combining Science and Mathematics & Computer Science) represents the school's commitment to interdisciplinary thinking and to STEM as a core element of the curriculum. At the middle school, Ransom Everglades offers a range of courses in mathematics from Foundations in Math to Geometry (proof-based), a three year integrated science curriculum, along with required basic programming courses, and electives in python, engineering, and robotics. The department seeks candidates to help design contemporary curriculum, especially in computer science, and who can further its efforts to integrate the use of technology in pedagogy. Just like in the students we recognize, we value teachers who wish to share their love of mathematics with others in and outside of the classroom.
Members of the STEM department contribute to the department’s ongoing discussions about interdisciplinary and experiential learning, innovative assessment practices, and best practices in the use of technology in STEM education. Candidates must embrace the school’s value for inquiry-based, student-centered learning and the school's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ransom Everglades expects its faculty members to participate in department meetings, student activities, and otherwise be engaged in the life of the school.
This is a replacement position primarily teaching math, but with the possibility to teach computer science or science courses based on the interest and qualifications of the candidate. A Master’s degree in a field in, or closely related to science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, and proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, including Teams/OneNote, and G Suite platforms and interactive digital displays, are required. Prior independent school teaching experience, and a background and experience to teach in several disciplines within STEM, are preferred.
An initial round of interviews will take place by video conference. Based on public health circumstances, finalists will either be invited to campus for an in-person interview and teaching demonstration, or have a “virtual campus visit,” and will be asked to submit at least three references and/or letters of recommendation.
