The Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) at MSK specializes in performing a variety of genomics technologies, almost exclusively in high-efficiency mode, and has a collection of sequencing platforms. We coordinate with multiple groups throughout MSK to provide investigators with a full range of genomic services. Our process is fully inclusive: we assist investigators with the phenotypic characterization of tissues and macro dissection of specimens and extract DNA and RNA from a wide range of sources (single cells, FFPE and fresh frozen sample, buccal swab, circulating free DNA, etc.). We do this to support basic, translational, and clinical research. Ultimately, the focus of our work is to help establish the basis of cancer pathogenesis, diagnostics, and treatment at MSK.
The Senior Project Assistant will work as part of the Sample and Project Management team, playing an integral role in investigator communication and standardization of all projects as they are processed within the IGO. We want you to join our team!
Participate in meetings with investigators to understand the scope of projects and effectively communicate the services provided by IGO
Review all submissions for correctness and completeness and guide investigators through processing decisions that are in line with the goals of their projects
Analyze the quantity and quality of samples using various instruments and communicate results electronically
Utilize the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) efficiently to ensure the downstream processing team has relevant and up-to-date information
Investigate unexpected outputs and deliver information to IGO leadership and investigators
Facilitate lab processing by maintaining freezer organization and storage in a LEAN way
Receive samples from outside institutions, prepare shipments to outside institutions, and use liquid handling automation to aliquot nucleic acid materials
