The Indiana University School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879, when it was founded as the Indiana Dental College. Responsible for working with patients, students and faculty to coordinate and resolve questions regarding the collection of information and monies for the services provided by the school. Post patient/insurance payments and generate secondary insurance claims.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive payments and enter billing data. - Patient/faculty/staff account resolution. - Reconcile daily reports for closing out day's business. - Analyze reports for rebilling. - Verify and communicate patient Medicaid/insurance eligibility .
High school diploma or GED and one year of related customer service or cashiering experience, as well as computer experience.
General understanding of dental and medical terms including third party billing. Data entry, typing, insurance and Medicaid knowledge. Knowledge of general office procedures. Excellent communication skills. Familiarity of terminal digit, numeric, and alpha filing, as well as cash receipts. Willingness to cross-train into other work areas including patient admitting and insurance. Ability to work in a busy office with many interruptions. Ability to interact daily with numerous students, patients, co-workers and doctors. Understanding of customer service, ability to follow service standards, and express financial obligation to patients. Ability to follow through with patient accounts is necessary to reach resolution.
Working Conditions / Demands
Majority of shift spent in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and telephone. Ability to communicate with patient, students, faculty, and staff regarding payment and insurance explanations of benefits. Extensive phone use. Regular attendance required.
Annual TB and up to date immunizations required.
