Description The Painting and Drawing Department in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University (SMFA at Tufts) is seeking an artist to serve as a part-time lecturer in Drawing starting in the Spring semester of 2021, with the possibility of becoming an ongoing part-time position. SMFA has a proud history of investigating, teaching and celebrating Drawing as a discipline of its own, rather than being just a foundation that leads to others. As a result, we are particularly interested in artists who are working to advance the field of contemporary drawing. The ideal candidate will have a significant exhibition record with a practice that centers on drawing with demonstrated knowledge and overlaps with other disciplines and areas. Examples of overlap might include but are not limited to painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, animation, digital and graphic arts or others. The ideal candidate will also be conversant in the many intersecting fields of contemporary art practice and critical studies of the field. The Department values the ability to teach drawing from perspectives of the Global South and Global North. Fluency in cultural discourses that expand the boundaries of cultural theory, art, and technology are also valued. Other areas of interest might include a demonstrated record of community engagement and mentorship within and outside of the classroom and experience teaching first-generation and non-traditional students.
