Department/College Description The College: Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at RIT is one of the most comprehensive computing colleges in the nation. The college is housed in modern facilities in Rochester, NY, that include leading programs in computer science, game design and cybersecurity. As home to the countrys first undergraduate programs in software engineering and information technology, as well as the recently opened Global Cybersecurity Institute, Golisano College has long been a leader in computing education and research. Faculty, staff and students have access to specialized studios, labs, and equipment that are among the most complete and current of any university in the world. Moreover, Golisano College graduates go on to work at the worlds leading tech firms and have developed groundbreaking technology like the Kinect for Xbox 360 and game-changing innovations like jQuery. The college is home to the departments of Computer Science, Computing Security, and Software Engineering, as well as the School of Information, the School of Interactive Games & Media, and a college-wide PhD program, providing abundant opportunities for research collaboration within and beyond the college.
The Department: Computing Security: In July of 2012, the Department of Computing Security at RIT was established to address critical security challenges cutting across computing disciplines. The department currently has 14 full-time faculty and is committed to excellence in teaching and research. The department offers the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in computing security with current enrollment of 430 and 60 students, respectively. We also have a PhD program, which is administered within the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. We are designated as one of National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense and in Research by the Department of Homeland Security and National Security Agency. The department seeks to advance the computing security discipline and to meet the rapidly growing need of computing security professionals in the workforce. RITs cyber defense team is a perennial contender in the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition and won the national championship in 2013. The department engages in a wide range of research in topics such as Cyber Analytics, Machine Learning, Applied Cryptography, Privacy, Digital Forensics, Network Security, Usable Security, and Cybersecurity Pedagogy.
Detailed Job Description The B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Computing Security. We encourage strong candidates whose research focuses are in, but not limited to, the following areas: privacy, usable security, threats modeling, malware and digital forensics, network and system security, and applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in computing security.
RIT is making a major investment in cybersecurity, including the development of a new Global Cybersecurity Institute. The three story, 5000 square feet, facility is the home of the department and equipped with the state of art hardware and software for both research and education in cybersecurity. RIT designated Socio-technical Approaches to Cybersecurity as one of five Strategic Signature Interdisciplinary Research Areas and devoted significant resources to grow our expertise and strengths in this field. While successful candidates will be homed in the Computing Security Department, they will be expected to collaborate across departments and colleges, to play critical roles in advancing research and education in cybersecurity. Required Minimum Qualifications
PhD in a computing or related discipline by date of appointment.
Recent scholarly dissemination record that demonstrates exceptional potential in computing security research from the perspective of the candidates discipline of expertise. Scholarly dissemination includes presentations in academic conferences, publications in peer-reviewed journals, or development of peer-reviewed software products or data sets.
Demonstrated evidence of experience or potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program.
Commitment and potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the ability to mentor master/doctoral students.
An interest in working in a collaborative, collegial department and among colleagues in the department, college, and institution.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
