Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. Responsibilities for a KCAD adjunct faculty member include syllabus and class preparation, instruction during scheduled course time, providing reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s), evaluation of student performance, submission of final grades on the FSU Banner system, and archiving of both course material and student work as requested by the program chair and/or the Dean of Academic Affairs.
The mission of the program is to achieve a positive impact in the field of science visualization and medical communication. The teaching assignment available for the Spring 2021 semester is a 3d animation class focusing on biological and medical content.
Faculty - Temporary & Continuing
Master’s degree in a related field to content being taught or: Master’s degree in unrelated field and additional minimum of 18 graduate credits in a field related to the content being taught or: Bachelor’s degree in a related field to content being taught and: • A minimum of six years, working in the field of industry of the content area being taught and;
Evidence of recognized accomplishment in area being taught, including awards, bibliography of publication referencing design or art work or scholarship or;
Evidence of scholarly/creative accomplishment in terms of completed design work, patents, exhibitions, presentations, publication, or juried recognition at the regional, national or international level or;
Evidence of service to the field in terms of memberships on committees or boards of professional organizations and other contributions to the field.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field to content being taught and Medical Illustration Certification.
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of professional-level practice in Medical Illustration.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Certified Medical Illustrator. A high level of proficiency with digital media. Strong ability to work as a member of a dedicated and organized team. Ability to engage in effective and constructive critiques of student proficiency. Knowledge of historical and contemporary illustration history. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, ZBrush, and/or Keyshot.
Prepare syllabus and class according to KCAD standards and distribute syllabi. Teach appropriate course(s) as assigned. Assess and evaluate student learning and provide formative feedback throughout the course. Provide reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course. Evaluate student performance. Submit midterm and final grades on the FSU Banner system. Archive both course material and student work as requested by program chair and/or the Dean of the College. Contribute to the college’s continuous improvement. Maintain effective communication with students and colleagues. Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff throughout the college.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in industry-standard software and processes, including but not limited to a digital production pipeline, illustration/photographic software, digital sculpting, photography, etc. Additional areas of experience in sciences are also highly valued.
