TheÂ Department of Entomology in the College of Agriculture and Life Science seeks to fill up to two (2) Program Specialist II positions to implement state-wide efforts related to pest resistance management (i.e., Iowa Pest Resistance Management Program) and monarch/pollinator conservation (i.e., Iowa Monarch Conservation Strategy).
This position will be filled at either multiple part-time or full time positions dependent on candidate preference and department needs.
Under general supervision, this position will coordinate and assist in facilitation of workgroup meetings. They will be responsible for tracking priorities and progress with collaborators from Iowa State University/CALS, LAS, Extension Service; the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, USDA; Iowa and national farm organizations, cooperatives, agricultural retailers, certified crop advisers, independent crop advisers, land management firms, pesticide companies, and conservation and environmental NGOs. The successful candidate will help to promote the two programs through creation of outreach materials and outreach activities as well as synthesize and document reporting outcomes to the Iowa Monarch Conservation Consortium and the Iowa Pest Resistance Management Program.
The successful candidate will possess excellent organization skills, excellent communication skills to ensure ongoing communication both to and from stakeholders and theÂ ISUÂ team, as well as the ability to accurately portray, communicate and develop audience-appropriate materials. The successful candidate will help promote multi-organization collaboration in meeting State and county-wide goals.Â In some cases this coordination will involve community-based problem solving. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment will be essential to the success of this position. Position requires in-state travel which may include occasional overnight stays as well some evening and weekend responsibilities. Positions may be filled as full-time or part-time depending on the needs of the candidate(s).
This is a regular position with fixed term appointment. All accrued vacation must be used during term of appointment or will be forfeited.
Example of Duties â¢ Assist in managing a program to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with the objectives of the university. â¢ Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, and staffing for assigned program. â¢ Monitors budget and ensures that the program meets the overall objectives of the university. â¢ Develops public relations initiatives, workshops, seminars, surveys, or other activities to promote the program and carry out its objectives. â¢ Acts as a representative of the program. â¢ Participates in project management. â¢ May secure external funding as needed.
