The Employee Learning & Engagement Consultant (Consultant) is part of the Human Resources' People and Engagement group (Group) at Vanderbilt University and is an individual contributor responsible for managing aspects of and facilitating facets of the orientation, professional development, employee learning, organizational development and effectiveness, and employee engagement processes including employee appreciation at the university. This position works to support employee learning and development as part of the Group's objective to enhance the employee experience through the delivery of learning programs and resources that further enable the University to position itself as an employer of choice and to help drive the Group focus to recruit, retain, and reward the best available talent working day-to-day across campus in an array of roles ranging from those situated in world-class research labs, supporting and enhancing the experience of our students, to the administration of the university's business and operational needs, and more.
Reporting directly to senior leadership within the Group, the Consultant collaborates within the Group and others in the Office of Human Resources with strong connections to the HR Consulting team to provide a consistent and effective team approach that enables our campus customers to do the impactful work they do on a daily basis.
The Consultant is charged with creating and delivering innovative employee learning and engagement programs to help the University accelerate its professional development efforts and support the University's employment value proposition and employer of choice efforts. This position uses a project management mindset and creative entrepreneurial spirit to build and deliver campus needs focused programs and is a subject matter expert on how to best develop and resource talent across all spectrums of performance.
Key Functions and Expected Performance
Support the operational and strategic objectives of the Office of Human Resources, the campus community, and the Group by leading peers and collaborators through expertise and influence; bring rigorous approach, informed by results-oriented research and methods, to drive employee learning and engagement programs that are in demand and embraced by the campus community.
Empower employees to feel ownership over their careers, and to feel connected to resources to help them learn and grow. Drive impactful learning initiatives (e.g. design and facilitate new hire orientation and upgrading onboarding experience) to invest in values and behaviors that accelerate our institutional effectiveness.
Develop, implement, and maintain innovative methods of employee appreciation.
Engage with University leaders and campus partners using a high touch approach and involve/engage them in all aspects of the employee learning and engagement process. Seek out their substantive input while at the same time offering expert advice that fosters a trusting and collaborative partnership.
Support and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to increase the likelihood of welcoming new ideas and perspectives while creating a stronger, more talented workforce. Cultivate relationships with community partners, professional associations, and peer institutions, and network to identify, develop, and implement leading practices that enable the University to develop and retain highly qualified and diverse talent.
Proactively assess and develop learning focused programs and initiatives to enhance the employee experience, ensure that the knowledge building needs of the University are met, and better enable campus partners to manage performance and professional development for their teams. Implement creative ways to provide training for in-office and work-from-home leaders and employees to drive performance, support service delivery, and institutional initiatives.
Review and assess training needs of employees and departments based on skills, knowledge, experience, culture, and workforce changes; assist with and facilitate post-training gap analysis' and needs assessments through surveys, knowledge checks and focus groups to implement timely training feedback.
Facilitate learning solutions in either a physical classroom or virtual setting. Serve as a role model for excellent instructional facilitation and develop those capabilities in others. Develop facilitator guides, participant guides, PowerPoint decks, and job aids to support learning opportunities. Manage existing and develop new employee learning and engagement programs and efforts in support of University needs and objectives.
Develop and nurture an employee learning and engagement experience that translates to a high-quality working relationship and serves as the foundation for positive relations within departments, across the university community, and with those seeking to join the university in now and in the future. Keep employees informed and engaged in the ongoing learning and development process by delivering a consistent and leading practice focused experience.
Make data-informed decisions that provide customer-centric solutions to existing and future problems by developing and analyzing metrics, dashboards and reports that are available in the University's HR-related systems. Use the data to make improvements where needed and create new best practices to be shared with customers and across the Group and campus.
Actively seek out continual learning, development opportunities, and stretch assignments for ongoing career development. Participate in relevant conferences, trainings, webinars, and share best practices across the HR function, when appropriate.
Participate on special projects teams and work on various initiatives in order to enhance the experience of our customers, colleagues, and candidates. Develop, lead/manage projects and programs focused on the employee learning and engagement space in order to meet strategic and operational needs of the University.
Collaborate and work closely cross-functionally within HR and with campus partners and leadership; produce narratives and written reports that analyze and interpret program results and other findings to share and assist stakeholders across the University.
Design, build, and manage learning and development programs/solutions/initiatives from end-to-end, including engaging stakeholders, driving continuous improvement, and measuring behavior change to help achieve desired learning outcomes. Obtain the support and engagement from critical campus partners, stakeholders and influencers to ensure the successful implementation of learning and engagement solutions.
Develop and implement employee learning, partnering with the stakeholders and leading ad hoc teams focused on meeting University needs through the design and delivery of training. Design Train-the-Trainer programs and resources and processes to ensure unit-based trainers have the capabilities to effectively facilitate and execute training programs.
This position reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Employee Learning & Organizational Effectiveness or a member of the Employee Learning & Engagement team.
