RESEARCH SCIENTIST/PROJECT MANAGER , Biological Engineering , to join an exciting project sponsored by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Will be part of an interdisciplinary team of synthetic biologists and chemical engineers in a project spanning several institutions, including MIT, Conagen, and BioCellection. Will develop a process for the biodegradation of plastic waste and its up conversion into products, and coordinate efforts across a team from industry and academia. Responsibilities include performing your own biological engineering research project and ensuring that the project achieves its overarching scientific goals; basic synthetic biology research coordinated within a team of researchers located in the Boston and San Francisco areas; hands-on implementation and troubleshooting; collaboration with third-party research groups also participating in the DARPA project; reporting to the sponsor; and communication with research partners in various sites.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : a Ph.D. in bioengineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, engineering, or related field; at least four years' research experience, including experience with complex research projects and the management of multidisciplinary projects; strong organizational, quantitative, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills; self-motivation; and proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of teams; meet project deliverables in a timely way; evaluate plans and methods, revising as appropriate; and work effectively in a fast-paced, cutting-edge and challenging environment.
