The Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Digital Content will oversee the overall management, operations and performance evaluation of Athletic Communications, while also ensuring we are meeting the communications goals of an NCAA Division I athletic program sponsoring 15 varsity sports.
Provide leadership, direction and management oversight for professional and support staff in the athletic communication department. Responsible for the performance management and development of athletics communications.
Oversees message development and execution for all athletics communications, while ensuring alignment with overall university message strategy and error-free delivery. Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies to secure media coverage, raise the visibility of ISU athletics and university strategic objectives.
Coordinate communications and messaging for the Director of Athletics, including developing and implementing media outreach strategy, drafting and editing talking points and/or speeches as requested for public appearances, drafting and editing written communications, and preparing briefings. Serve as the lead communications contact and spokesperson for the Department of Athletics, advising athletics leadership and coaches on athletics communications strategies and overseeing all aspects of athletics communications, including (1) media relations, (2) video and broadcast communications, and (3) digital, new and social media.
Participate in the development and implementation of marketing and promotions plans to significantly increase brand awareness/affinity/loyalty, revenue and attendance for the Athletic Department. Ensure that communications and marketing plans and strategies support, integrate and leverage development and recruitment efforts and objectives.
Provide regular reports to the Department of Athletics and External Operations leadership on progress toward meeting athletic communications goals and objectives. Ensure statistical records are maintained and reports are submitted as required to governing bodies (e.g. NCAA and the Missouri Valley Conference).
Ensure appropriate processes and systems are in place and followed to provide quality control and excellent customer service to external constituencies, coaches and athletics leadership. Evaluate processes, resources and staffing and recommend needed improvements to elevate Indiana State athletics.
Serve as athletics representative to ESPN3. Pitch feature ideas for broadcast crews. Assist in assigning play-by-play and analysts.
Manage Athletics Communications budget. Oversee high profile Department of Athletics announcements and events. Oversee media and message training for Department of Athletics leadership, coaches and student-athletes.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4 years); Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
Experience: 6 Years of progressively responsible leadership and achievement in athletics communications for intercollegiate or professional sports organizations and/or a communications/marketing agency.
