The Department of Art and Design at St. John's University invites applications for an adjunct position in Illustration, to begin January 2021. The Department is located on the Queens campus in New York City, and offers BFA degrees in Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and Fine Art and an MA in Museum Studies. The mission of the Department, since the first degree program was offered in 1963, is to provide a rich and challenging educational environment that emphasizes the creation of visually sophisticated works and concurrently develops the whole person: intellectually, ethically, and critically. Students in the 132-credit NASAD accredited Illustration program complete a rigorous program of coursework followed by a capstone course and internship or thesis.
The Department of Art and Design at St. John's University in Queens, NY is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach Illustration II. The course is a project-based studio course taken by Illustration majors during the second semester of their Junior year. It will be offered as an online synchronous class and will meet twice a week Mondays and Thursday mornings during the Spring 2021 semester.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced illustrator who is currently working in the field and has college level teaching experience. Applicants should have experience in digital painting and vector drawing and work in one or more of the following areas: editorial and narrative illustration, illustrated books, comic, storyboarding, visual narrative, graphic design, illustration for UI/UX design, social media and/or other multiple media applications. Candidates should have a Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent experience; some online teaching experience is preferred.
