The Translational Neural Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a dedicated, self-motivated Researcher interested in working at the intersection of technology, neuroscience, and mental health. Our laboratory develops technologies to reverse the circuit impairments that cause mental illness, including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, PTSD, and addictions. The successful applicant will be responsible for working with senior lab members to optimize and run rodent brain and behavior assays. In this specific newly funded project, the goal is to characterize and test these methods in pre-clinical (rat) assays, and to assist colleagues who are working to turn them into a clinically viable medical device.
Job duties will be (20%) compassionate care of research animals, with opportunities to perform small animal surgery and other veterinary skills if desired. (40%) recording of physiologic and behavioral data from behaving animals (10%) histology and microscopy, and (30%) analysis of the resulting data
The essential skills for this work are willingness to learn new skills and precise attention to detail and scrupulous record-keeping, in both paper and digital formats.

This includes clinical shadowing opportunities with psychologists and physicians from several specialties. BS/BA or a combination of education and work experience to equal four (4) years.
Demonstrated interest or experience working in Neuroscience field.
This position is most suited for candidates with at least some prior exposure to small-animal research.
