Position Summary The Assistant Director for Professional Billing/Revenue Cycle Information Technology - Epic provides technical and operational leadership for the implementation, optimization and upgrades of enterprise Epic systems. Under the guidance/direction of project leadership, this position directs operational activities for Epic Resolute Professional Billing and Epic Professional Claims and will be involved in and/or support additional Epic modules as needed. The Assistant Director will implement operational policies and procedures and ensure operational efficiency is maintained and optimized throughout the team. The individual will be part of a consortium team with colleagues at affiliated institutions, consisting of clinicians, program/project managers, analysts, and developers with module specific domain expertise. This position works closely with clinical and business leadership and leads a multi-disciplinary team in the design, implementation, workflow optimization, change management, and issue resolution related to the enterprise system. This position requires broad knowledge of clinical systems such as the Epic platform, along with clinical work-flow and business processes. As an Assistant Director for the Enterprise Epic initiative, this individual will collaborate with appropriate technical and operational leaders from affiliated institutions.
Responsibilities - Directs and oversees all Epic Professional Billing/Revenue Cycle related activities, in accordance with the guidelines set by the EpicTogether, FPO leadership and best practices; including evaluating design, development and coordination of Epic professional billing projects.
- Defines and communicates milestones, scope of work, and resource allocation. Provides overall direction and guidance, coordinates schedules and related project activities to ensure the work and documentation meet appropriate departments/service line standards. Manages competing priorities to keep the team on track to deliver high quality solutions. This includes being responsible for the overall project management and prioritization of all requests.
- Collaborates with users and other IT departments to develop strategy and goals for team and department. Applies strategic thinking to IT service management with the ultimate goal of designing, developing, and implementing Professional Billing/Revenue Cycle IT service management as both an organizational capability and as a strategic asset.
- Maintains organization's effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing new and innovative information technologies. Provides technical leadership to ensure best development practices, user experience standards and security implementation strategies are followed.
- Supervises, hires, trains, mentors and evaluates assigned staff. Works with managers and employees on professional development, as well as correction of deficiencies, implementation of corrective action and discipline. Manages staff, provides executive level supervision and assist with team development. Acknowledges team accomplishments and provides kind feedback to motivate and improve team effectiveness.
- Leads in providing technical support and consultation on the build, testing, implementation, upgrade, ongoing operational support and optimization of applicable Professional Billing/Revenue Cycle Epic modules, including associated organizational workflows, hardware and peripheral devices, training materials, and Epic reporting.
- Owns complex technical issues and works with Epic and other Epic Together Team Members to identify solution options.
- Communicates with internal and external stakeholders regularly to clearly communicate goals, milestones, and especially technical concepts, procedures and projects to non-technical users. Presents Professional/Revenue Cycle IT specifications and delivery schedule clearly and concisely to individuals at all levels of the organization, including to executive management.
- Participates in and, in some cases, leads key user committees to identify business requirements and recommend solutions which conform to organizational goals and regulatory guidelines. Develops innovative approaches for dealing with customer needs that are also aligned with overall Professional Billing/Revenue Cycle information services goals and objectives.
- Strategically collaborates with a cross-functional teams including development and vendor resources to solve problems effectively and quickly.
- Coordinates and leads On-Call support, accountable and responsible for supporting business critical applications and systems that operate 24/7/365.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/related field or equivalent in education and experience.
- Epic Module Certification (Epic module certification must be obtained within two months of employment)
- 5 years work experience in a similar technical role.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; including the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization and affiliated institutions.
- Excellent Organizational, Analytical and Project Management Skills.
- Demonstrated success in managing team and individual performance in complex environments.
- Ability to conceptualize, plan, and implement projects as well as interact effectively with applications in complex problem situations.
- Skills in change management/leadership.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree
- PMP Certification
- Microsoft and other technology industry certifications
- ITIL Certification
- 7 years of solid experience in a Technical Manager/Technical Project Management role
- Compliant with Change Control policies, familiar with Ticketing systems, ability to manage communications associated with project roll outs.
- Experience with IT architecture planning, software development methodologies and large scale integrated web systems implementations and upgrades in enterprise environment.
- Deep and broad understanding of web and mobile technologies, such as Reporting/BI tools, Microsoft.NET, SharePoint.
- Knowledge of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web services, principles, and patterns at an enterprise-level as it relates to complex web and mobile applications.
- Comfortable leading team using Agile SCRUM software development methodology.
- Experience with selecting and managing external software vendors.
- Applications: Tableau; Statistical Application Fluency (SAS, SPSS, Python ML, Scala, Spark ML, etc.)
Other Requirements - Although rare, all staff are expected to move computer equipment or similar objects to expedite projects.
- Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue. Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care of first aid.
