The mission of the Diagnostic Molecular Pathology Laboratory (DMP) is to promote precision oncology by using cutting-edge genomic technologies and platforms to inform the diagnosis, prognosis and therapy of cancer patients.
To enable high-throughput tumor genomic profiling, DMP, in collaboration with the Innovation Laboratory, has validated and implemented a number of next-generation sequencing (NGS) based assays for clinical use, including MSK-IMPACT for tumor tissue and MSK-ACCESS for circulating tumor DNA. Both assays have been approved by NYSDOH for clinical use and MSK-IMPACT has been authorized by the US Food & Drug Administration as a clinical test and has been used to profile tumor and normal DNA samples from more than 50,000 MSKCC patients as part of their diagnosis and clinical care.
The Assistant Technical Laboratory Director- Diagnostic Molecular Pathology is responsible for overseeing the DMP Laboratory's test development pipeline in conjunction with the Laboratory manager, Laboratory Director, and Service Chief. The incumbent will assist in the design and interpretation of Next Generation Sequencing assays as well as provide leadership, coordination and oversight for existing clinical test development effort.
Responsibilities include performing state of the art molecular technologies to discover novel genetic and clinically useful molecular biomarkers, assisting in translational research activities and reviewing /troubleshooting procedures and work assignments in addition to performing activities leading to future clinical applications. The incumbent will design and interpret complex experiments using Next Generation Sequencing technology and will help manage a team of bench scientists developing clinical assays based on these techniques.
